June 12 4th Annual "Artistry in Wood" show and saleThe 4th anual Artistry in Wood show and Sale was held the weekend of june 10th and 11th at the Quality Inn and Suites in North Platte. With one notable exception, everyone agreed to share pictures of their entries. I am still trying to identify the artist on a couple of the entries. If you note any glaring discrepencies, let me know and I'll try to correct them. Depending on which browser you're using, the pictures may look a little strange the first time through. Try stopping and restarting the slide show, It may or may not help.

Topic: First visit with North Platte Wood CarversI rolled into town on Tuesday evening at 7pm looking forward to my first visit with the North Platte Wood Carvers club. It is a 75+ mile two coffees and three doughnut drive from where I live in Elwood. I had never been to a wood carving club meeting and wasn't sure what to bring along so I packed just about every thing I owned in the way of tools, carving blanks and wood carving how-to literature. I sauntered into the meeting a little late (got lost). Looking around the room, I see a dozen or so people working on various wood carvings and completely immersed in their activity. A gentleman close to me looks up briefly and goes back to work on a cowboy caricature. People at the next table are busy chipping away at cottonwood bark gnome huts. I says "Howdy folks" and several people stop to introduce themselves and welcome me aboard and then it's back to the business at hand. A gentleman clears a spot for me and says "sit right down there" so I crack open my tool box pull out some tools and wood and try to pretend like I've done all this but it's not long before someone ask me "been carving long?" You know? Like when you trip and you're asked "been walking long"
